Mobile Technology
Mobile technology is a technology that drives where the user goes. It consists of portable two-way communication devices, computing devices, and the network technology that connects them.
Currently, mobile technology is characterized by internet-enabled devices such as smartphones, tablets, and watches. They are the latest trend that includes two-way pagers, laptops, cellular (clamshell) phones, GPS navigators, and more.
What is mobile technology?
The communication networks connecting these devices are roughly referred to as wireless technologies, allowing mobile devices to share voice, data, and applications (mobile apps).
Mobile technology is ubiquitous and growing. The number of smartphone operators has passed the 3 billion mark, and the global mobile workforce is predicted to reach 1.87 billion by 2022.
Types of mobile networks
Cellular networks
Radio networks with distributed cell towers allow mobile devices (cellular phones) to automatically change frequencies and communicate without disruption across large geographic areas. In addition, the same essential switching capacity enables cellular networks to accommodate many users on a limited number of radio frequencies.
4G networking
The current cellular standard for most wireless communications. It uses packet switching technology that organizes data into parts or packets for transmission and reassembles information at the destination. 4G – “G” for a generation – is said to be ten times faster than 3G – and 5G is coming even faster. 5G uses a range of aggregated frequency bands to unlock bandwidth and is around 20 times earlier than 4G.
WiFi
Radio waves connect plans to the Internet through localized routers called hotspots. WiFi networks, short for wireless fidelity, are like cell towers for internet access, but they don’t automatically pass on service without establishing a WiFi connection. Most mobile devices allow automatic switching between WiFi and cellular networks based on availability and user preferences.
