There may be a few apps whose usefulness you might question, but the wealth of the App store is capable of morphing your iPhone into a useful gadget for travel. Some of the popular travel-friendly applications include FlightTrack which notifies you whether your flight is delayed or not; eSIM apps Next Flight that assists you in finding out which flight is boarding next; and Currency which provides up-to-date foreign currency conversion rates.

In the process of traveling a lot, one learns what makes life comfortable and, of course, how one saves money and in large part it is connected with the use of appropriate means!

Accordingly, if we were to get rid of all travelling aids, and only choose nine travel applications, we would pick these ones. Read below for reasons why you too should download & use them! All these apps are free of charge unless stated otherwise.

On a different note, we do not endorse the companies or apps named here eSIM app, as we are sharing suggestions instead.

1. TripIt

For some time now, TripIt has been one of my favorite travel apps. The concept is rather straightforward. Whenever you receive an email confirmation for a flight, hotel, car rental, etc., you simply send it to TripIt, which will extract the data and collate it according to travel. It is simply a good way to manage all the various bookings one may have for a trip into one zone.

2. Flighty

The best thing about Flighty is that it monitors your flights and provides you with updates, usually in real-time. It’s so good that it almost always notifies you of delays, changes, or cancellations before any airline you’re flying with.

3. Hotel Tonight

In case you are an avid traveller, chances are that you are already a member of a hotel loyalty programs such as Bonvoy or Hilton Honours. But then again there are times when you need to book an amazing hotel room at an amazing price. For that, there is Hotel Tonight.

4. Google Translate

If you are going on a trip to a place where the language spoken is foreign to you, Google Translate indeed comes very handy. It enables you to either type a phrase and gets the translation or makes it able to speak out the translation. The interpreter mode is even better. Set your device between two people talking, automatically detecting the languages and translating back and forth.

5. Uber

While other apps for ridesharing do exist, Uber has the widest reach. Within the last two months, I have also used this service to travel to and from airports and local hotels in New York, Barcelona, and Dubai respectively.

6. Hopper

Hopper is a mobile application designed to analyze fares of flights and hotels in order to determine the best time for one to make a booking. You can also create push notifications so that you can be certain that you do not miss the best price available for your travel. One of the most sought-after free applications to help with an airline ticket or a hotel reservation – Hopper. You can download Hopper for free on both iOS and Android devices.

7. ExpressVPN

When going on trips, it is likely that you will stay for some time in an airport, coffee shop, or a hotel with a Wi-Fi network. That is a good thing but most hotel networks are not that safe as one would believe. This is an example of using a VPN. It secures all data and internet related actions from exposure. The network operator is blind because the user’s IP and geographical location are hidden and all the information that travels over the network is encrypted.

Moral Reference: Google Maps

While I’m a fan of Apple Maps, I know that Google’s version is the default way many people get around. That’s fine, and I highly recommend that you get to know the features available for traveling.
